Great is the worm who humbly serves,
Pushing the earth for growth to emerge.
Great is the seed who strives with might
To lift up its head and take in the light.
Great is the bird who sings morning’s hymns.
Great is the tree who stretches her limbs.
Great is the sun who warms all the earth
And greatest is the man who knows his true worth.
With eyes to the worm
And ears to the bird
And face to the sunshine
And heart to His word
Open and seeing the truth to be found.
Without pounding a fist, or making a sound
Each of special; each atom sublime
Each of us linked in our sanctified time.
Each of us needing the gift of the other.
Each of us sister. Each of us brother.
United in love if we are to remain
Each singing his stanza; we share the refrain.
With eyes to the worm.
And ears to the bird
And face toward the sunshine
And heart to His word.
